HOW DEVANOR GOLDENS ALL STARTED
We got our first golden "Rudy" Ch Eirene's Right On Rudy CD from Marjean Verseveldt of Eirene Golden Retrievers. I showed him to his Championship and a CD. It didn't take me long to decide I would like to create my own little golden miracles, so I returned to Marjean in search of a foundation bitch, and Devanor Golden Retrievers was born.
Shortly after I acquired "Reba" Ch Eirene's Reason To Believe CD WC OD I herniated a disc in my lower back and had to undergo surgery to repair it. As a result of this injury I was no longer able to handle my own dogs. I hired a handler Naomi Brown for most of Reba's show career but managed to put her CD and WC on her myself as you don't have to run to accomplish those titles. It was around this time that I met a wonderful young handler named Shauna Pozniak(Shauna Chapman now) who expressed an interest in co-owning a puppy out of Reba's first litter to "Casey" Am Ch Goodtime's Best Case Scenario. Out of this breeding we co-owned a beautiful bitch "Regan" BIS Ch Devanor's Hot New Sensation. This naturally led to a co-bred litter which produced "Kaylan" multi Grp placing from the puppy class Ch Devanor's Wave Of The Future. Shauna is now a full partner in Devanor Goldens and manages all of the ring training and handling of our dogs for the conformation ring as well as helping with whelping, raising and socializing our litters. We also dabble in a few other breeds for fun so keep an eye out for a few strange faces on the news page.
To do well in this sport of dogs one must have a good foundation, and a good mentor. I found both with Marjean Versveldt of Eirene Goldens as not only did she send me a foundation bitch of extraordinary quality, but also was a supurb mentor. Much of the success that Devanor Goldens has enjoyed to date is because of the expert guidance Marjean gave me in the early years. Thank You Marjean for all you have done for me.
We are a small kennel located in Saskatoon SK Canada. We produce 1 or 2 litters per year, and all breeding stock is OFA clear for hips and elbows, heart is cleared by Board Certified Cardiologist, and eyes are checked annually by a Board Certified Ophthalmologist. Our puppies are raised in the house and under foot. They are thoroughly socialized and come with a written health guarantee. All prospective owners are carefully screened to make sure they are prepared to provide a good home. We feed and recommend a natural raw diet.
